Music Matters is in its fifth year

Dear Editor:

The Winthrop Music Matters organization can’t begin to thank you enough for all the support the community has shown. Working with the School Board, the Administration and some dedicated teachers, the music program has come amazingly far in a relatively short period of time. We look forward to continued growth.

March is National Music Awareness Month. We intend to make our annual Music Fest the biggest and best ever with more bands and more prizes than ever before. We hope to have an entire Music Day with area businesses being involved in the festivities (more details to announced).  Please watch for further updates. Follow us on Facebook or at our website www.winthropmusicmatters.org and of course here in the Transcript.

Other exciting events on the near horizon are the school bands, “The Winthrop Sound”, winter concerts. The Beginning band performs on Wednesday December 16th, and the Advanced band on Thursday December 17th in the high school auditorium.

Congratulations to the newly formed band parent booster group “Supporters of the Winthrop Sound”, whose fundraising effort has help keep the band going.

Things are going in the right direction for music in Winthrop schools and it because of great neighbors and supporters like you. Make a pont to come hear what you have helped bring about.

Walter Egan
