Catholic Woman’s Club

The Winthrop Catholic Woman’s Club (WCWC) and Friends of the WCWC held their first meeting of the year Monday night. A large contingent of members were on hand to plan for the new year and to welcome guest speaker, well-known Winthrop resident John Floyd, who spoke about the appraising of antiques. Floyd invited members to try their hand with the task of assessing a value to antiques, making for an interesting program. Co-chairs Ethel Kelley and Alice Haskell welcomed members to the first meeting and there was pizza, salad, and sumptuous desserts for all the guests in attendance.

The Catholic Woman’s Club is one of the town’s oldest groups, approaching its 100th anniversary in 2020. The group, led by president Denise Merullo, annually presents scholarships to students who are continuing their education in college.

WCWC members Carol Pizzferri and Donna Dreeszen had the honor of seeing Pope Francis during his visit to Philadelphia and Carol spoke of what a thrill it was to see the Pope in person and be a part of such a great event.

The WCAC welcomes new members to join the club that holds monthly meetings at the St. John the Evangelist School cafeteria.
