Alice Burns

Life long Winthrop resident

 Alice M. (Gundersen) Burns of Winthrop passed away on August 30. She was 90 years old.

Alice was a member of the Winthrop Catholic Woman’s Club, Mothers Club of Winthrop and the Literary Guild of St. John the Evangelist Church.

Born in Winthrop, the daughter of the late Charles and Alice (Curtis) Gunderson, she was the beloved wife of the late Edward J. “Buddy” Burns; devoted mother of Sister Patricia Burns SOLT of Texas, Paula Paiz and her husband, Jose of New Mexico, Sheila Magnan and her husband, Raymond of Winthrop and her special daughter Sister Eileen Doherty, SOLT of Texas. She was the dear sister of the late Charles and Curtis Gundersen and the loving grandmother to all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Her Funeral will be held from the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home, 210 Winthrop St., Winthrop on Friday, September 4 at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church, Winthrop at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will follow in Winthrop Cemetery (Belle Isle Section). Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home today, Thursday, from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to St. John the Evangelist Church, 320 Winthrop St. Winthrop, 02152 or to the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity, 1200 Lantana Street, Corpus Christi, TX 78407. Eric Michael Sanchez

Of Florida, formerly of Winthrop and East Boston

Eric Michael Sanchez of Edgewater, Florida, formerly of East Boston and Winthrop, passed away on August 28 at Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia. He was 67 years old.
Eric was born in Boston to Mary and Andrew “Eugene” Sanchez on April 3, 1948. He graduated from Boston Technical High School in 1966. Stationed in Germany, he served as a member of the US Army in the 8th Infantry from 1970 to 1972. He went on to earn a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University in 1982. He earned his MBA from Boston University in 1988. He worked in the Engineering Department for Mobil Solar, the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority as a Project Manager for the Operations Division, and the Orange County Utilities Department as a Section Manager for the Field Services. He was involved in the Boy Scouts of America as a Troop Leader, as well as coaching boys and girls T-Ball, Little league, Youth Soccer, CYO Basketball, and High School Basketball. An avid lover of sports, Eric spent his life rooting for the Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots. He also enjoyed music, cars, his pool, traveling, Disney World, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara of Edgewater, Florida, sister Carmen of Wareham, son, Scott of Easton, and daughter, Kristan of Maitland, FL. He also leaves behind five grandchildren (Paxton, Leila, London, Rowan and Brandon), six nephews, and five nieces.
The family will hold a small, private ceremony in Florida. Arrangements will be by the Baldwin Brothers of New Smyrna Beach. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer Society.
The immediate family wishes to extend gratitude to the many friends and family, and especially Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia, who helped provide a dignified and graceful last few days.
