Deleo and McKenna a Formidable Tandem

It was great see Speaker of the House Robert A. DeLeo and Town Manager James McKenna at the Multi-Chamber Barbecue Fundraiser to benefit the North Suffolk Mental Health Association. Both dignitaries were well received by the many guests in attendance, reinforcing the respect that people have for their leadership and innovativeness, DeLeo has been a leader statewide on mental health issues and has been responsible for bringing the state’s spotlight (and increased funding) to mental health programs.

The fact that James McKenna was asked to be a featured speaker (along with Revere Mayor Dan Rizzo and new Chelsea City Manager Tom Ambrosino) at this event was not surprising. McKenna’s work in Winthrop has been gaining favorable notice in this area, especially among residents in nearby communities. His ascension as town manager has paralleled Winthrop’s resurgence in all areas that make our community a jewel. That’s why it was satisfying to read in a North Shore publication that officials from another community came to Winthrop to view the construction of the new middle/high school, another compliment to McKenna, the School Building Assistance Committee, Council President Peter Gill, the School Committee, and all the residents who supported the construction of the new school. It was McKenna who help right the financial ship of this town, leading to new developments and the general feeling that Winthrop is a great place in which to live or build a business.

Winthrop has never been better and having Speaker DeLeo and Manager McKenna in such important positions of leadership has led to the growth, prosperity, and optimism that now abound in our town.
