Patrick ‘Butchy’ Ferullo

Former proprietor of the Hi Tide Restaurant in Winthrop, worked for Delta Airlines and was a member of the North Shore Corvette Club

Patrick A. “Butchy” Ferullo of Saugus, formerly of Winthrop, passed away at the Massachusetts General Hospital on August 3. He was 69 years old.

Born in Winthrop, the beloved son of the late Gloria (Feudo) and Pasquale Ferullo, he worked for over 30 years for Delta Airlines and was the former proprietor of the Hi Tide Restaurant in Winthrop. A lover of Corvette’s, he was a member of the North Shore Corvette Club.

He was the husband of the late Bette Ann (Briggs) and the loving father of Patrick Ferullo and his wife, Heather of Fairfield, Connecticut and Kristen Ferullo of Stratham, New Hampshire; the dear brother of Florence Kane, Allan Ferullo, Angela Farrell, all of Winthrop and Stephen Ferullo of Wakefield; cherished grandfather of Patrick, Giana, Molly, Colin, William and Nathan and loving companion of Roberta Cataldo of Winthrop. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the visitation from the Ernest P. Caggiano and Son-O’Maley Funeral Home, Winthrop on Friday, August 7 from 3 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Saturday, August 8 at 9 a.m. followed a Funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church, 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop at 10 a.m. Interment to follow the mass will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

John Jones

Bookbinding Co. retiree; Longtime member of the Cottage Park Yacht Club

John A. Jones, a former 75 year resident of 79 Sargent Street, Winthrop, passed away at the age of 79 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital after an extended illness on July 31. For the past few years “JJ” has been a resident of Atria Merrimack Place in Newburyport.

The beloved and devoted son of the late Alton C. Jones and Signa (Persson) Jones, he graduated from Fryeburg Academy in Maine and served in the U.S. Army Field Artillery for two years. He was employed at Samuel Ward Bookbinding Co. for many years and later worked for ACME Bookbinding until his retirement at the age of 74. Mr. Jones was a member of the Cottage Park Yacht Club for over 50 years.

Survivors include his sister, Eliabeth Moskowitz and her husband, Donald of Londonderry, NH and a brother Edward Jones of Phoenix, Arizona and five nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be conducted today, Thursday, August 6 at 11 a.m. at The First Church of Winthrop United Methodist, 217 Winthrop St., Winthrop. Visiting hours are omitted. Interment will follow at the Winthrop Cemetery (Cross Street Section.) Expressions of sympathy in John’s memory may be donated to a charity of your choice. Arrangements are by the Joseph R. Frazier Funeral Home of Winthrop.

James McDonald

Member of Winthrop Elks

James E. McDonald of Winthrop passed away at the Eastpointe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Chelsea on July 8 after a prolonged illness. He was 52 years old.

Born and a lifelong resident of Winthrop he was the beloved son of Catherine (McMann) and Joseph McDonald. A graduate of Winthrop High School, he was employed for many years as a painter and was a member of the Winthrop Lodge of Elks.

He was the loving father of Mary McDonald of Nashua, New Hampshire, Catherine McDonald and Jamie McDonald, both of Manchester, New Hampshire; the beloved brother of John McDonald of Winthrop, Robert McDonald of Connecticut, Thomas McDonald of Nashua, New Hampshire and Joseph McDonald of Winthrop.
