Lynn Mayor was Born in Winthrop

We just learned, as Lynn Mayor Judith Flanagan Kennedy celebrated her 53rd birthday at a surprise gathering in Lynn, that the Mayor was born at the Winthrop Hospital in 1962. The Mayor said her family was living in nearby East Boston at the time before moving to Lynn later that year. Mayor Kennedy, who is the first female mayor in Lynn history, went on to graduate from Lynn Classical in 1980, Tufts in 1984, and the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1987. She served on the Lynn School Committee and City Council before defeating the incumbent mayor in a close election in 2009 to take the corner office.

“I’ll always have a connection to Winthrop-By-The-Sea,” Kennedy said. “I’ve always liked the town and I’m proud to say I was born at the Winthrop Hospital.”

Mayor Kennedy seems to be keeping up on things in her birth place — she is aware of the great job that Town Manager James McKenna is doing here and knew that the Winthrop Hospital property has been converted into a new assisted living center (Arbors at Winthrop).
