The Family Breakfast

This Sunday morning the Winthrop Vikings football team will hold their 40th Annual Father’s Day Breakfast.

Coach Sean Driscoll and the 2014 NEC champions host their traditional “All-You-Can-Eat” Breakfast at the Winthrop High School cafeteria on Pauline Street.

Bring a big appetite and join the Winthrop families to celebrate Father’s Day. Coach Bob DeFelice started the tradition in 1975.

This year marks first breakfast at the old middle school building. The new high school/middle school is under construction and will be completed in July, 2016.

The cost of the breakfast is $7 and it is the major fundraiser for the football team.

Let’s celebrate Father’s Day with the football champions.

All-Star Classics

Are you ready for some football?

Saturday at Bentley University in Waltham, the Shriners All-Star Football Classic kicks off at 4 p.m

Winthrop Viking All-Scholastic Sean Gillis will represent the team in the 37th annual Shriners Football Classi.

Gillis, a co-captain, led the Vikings to the NEC championship in undefeated fashion.

The 2014 season was a memorable year for coach Sean Driscoll. He won his first NEC title.

The Vikings defeated larger schools Peabody, Lynn Classical, and Revere during the season. The 21-7 win over Peabody came in a battle of two undefeated teams before 4,000 fans before Coley Lee Field.

The Vikings defeated Peabody and clinched the title with a victory over Danvers.

Hope to see you, Viking fans, at Bentley Saturday.

Let the Games Begin!

Faces in the Crowd

Jeff Howe, ex-Melrose High School hoop standout, stumped me with this Boston Celtics trivia question:

Names the five ex-Boston Celtics players who led the NBA in scoring.

That is my trivia question of the week.
