Robert Capezza

Retired Winthrop school teacher

Winthrop Golf Club member

Robert J. Capezza of Winthrop passed away suddenly on May 6 at the age of 66.

Robert retired from the Winthrop Public School System where he was a teacher for many years. He was also the head of the Work Study Program at the school, an avid golfer, a member of the Winthrop Golf Club and a member of the Teacher’s Union.

Born in Boston, he was the cherished son of the late Anthony and Alice A. (Marroni) Capezza; devoted father of Taylor Marie Capezza and her boyfriend, David Goralski of Stoneham; dear brother of Emilie DiMento and her husband, Richard of Winthrop and Anthony Capezza and his wife, Jean of Costa Rica.

Robert Mottola

Longtime custodian at St. John the Evangilist Church

Robert E. Mottola of Lincoln Street, Winthrop passed away at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston on May 10. He was 75 years old.

Born in Boston, he was the beloved son of Lena (Tufo) and the late Antonio Mottola. A resident of Winthrop for over 32 years, he was employed for many years as the custodian for St. John the Evangelist Church in Winthrop.

He was the loving father of Robert J. Mottola of Revere, Laura Mottola-Serino of Peabody and James Mottola of Revere, the dear brother of the late Patricia Anzolone and is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the visitation from the Caggiano Funeral Home today, Thursday, May 14 from 4 to 7 p.m. The funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Friday, May 15 at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in St. John the Evangelist Church 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop at 10 a.m. Committal will be private. Frank Monteleone

Former proprietor of Curtains Plus

and Winthrop Police Auxiliary

Frank Monteleone of Summit Avenue, Winthrop passed away at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston on May 11. He was 74 years old.

Born in Boston, the beloved son of the late Maria (Gozzo) and Emmanuel Monteleone. A resident of Winthrop since 1966, he was the former proprietor of Curtains Plus that was located in Michael’s Mall in Winthrop for many years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was the devoted husband of Marie (Amentola) and the loving father of Lisa Ferrara and her husband, Frank, Frank Monteleone and his fiance, Kathy Cody, Joey Monteleone and his wife, Courtney and Gina Edgett and her husband, Billy all of Winthrop; the dear brother of the late Mary Scudieri, Anna Monteleone and Anthony Monteleone and the cherished grandfather of Nicole, Janelle, Giana, Frankie, Genna, Talia, Ella and Kaitlyn.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the visitation from the Ernest P. Caggiano and Son-O’Maley Funeral Home, Winthrop on Friday, May 15 from 4 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Saturday, May 16 at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop at 10:00 AM. Alexander Bellas

Eastern Airlines retiree

Alexander Bellas of Winthrop died on May 10. He was 91 years old.

A World War II veteran who served with the United States Coast Guard aboard the U.S.S. Vance (DE-387), he was discharged with the rating of Motor Machinist’s Mate 2/c. Following his military service, Alex went to work for Eastern Airlines at Logan Airport in Boston until his retirement.

Born and raised in Winthrop, he was the son of the late Demetrios and Nota (Courousis) Bellas; the brother of Xenophon “Ken” Bellas and his wife, Evelyn of California and the late William J. and Christy J. Bellas. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

His Funeral will be held from the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home 210 Winthrop St. Winthrop on Friday, May 15 at 8:45 a.m.. A Funeral Service will follow in St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 54 S. Common St., Lynn, MA 01902, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will be in Wintharop Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home today, Thursday, from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church.
