DPW Working Hard To Clear Snow

No doubt the busiest man in town over the past two weeks has been our DPW Director, Steve Calla, who along with the hard-working DPW employees have been non-stop to clear our streets of the piles of snow that Mother Nature has dumped on us. If the Blizzard of 2015 didn’t pour enough snow on our streets, sidewalks, parking lots, and public ways, then the second major snowstorm certainly did, bringing another foot of the white stuff.

From all reports and our personal observation, Calla and his work force have done an exceptional job under the challenging conditions that New Englanders know so well from growing up and living here.

Steve has been in constant communication with Town Manager James McKenna, Police Chief Terence Delehanty, and Fire Chief Paul Flanagan and has been on top of the snow removal operations in what has been an around-the-clock process.

Steve Calla and the personnel of his department have been responsible for making Winthrop look better than ever in recent months and now he and his department are doing their best to keep our streets safe and passable for motorists and pedestrians.

The bad news is that there may be some more snow soon, but the good news is that spring is just six weeks away — or at least that’s what Punxsutawney Phil let us know on Groundhog Day before he discourteously bit the Mayor.
