Game of the New Century

We think you have to go back to the 1992 and 1993 Super Bowls that were played at Miller Field against Mansfield and Westford Academy to find a bigger game than what will take place Friday night when the undefeated Northeastern Conference champion Winthrop Vikings host the undefeated Cape Ann League champion Lynnfield Pioneers. These are two tremendously talented teams — and Winthrop’s reputation was certainly enhanced based on how close Peabody (a team the Vikings defeated earlier and held Tanners’ running back Doug Santos in check) came to defeating powerful Everett last Friday night. Coach Sean Driscoll and his team are having a phenomenal campaign and we know they would certainly appreciate the town’s support for what should be a classic high school football game.

Winthrop football is back and there’s only one place to be in town for our real-life version of Friday Night Lights, and that is Miller Field.
