Annual Comedy Night Set for Oct. 17 at WYC

U.S. Olympic hockey captain Mike Eruzione said the family’s Winthrop Charities will hold its second annual Comedy Night fundraiser on Oct. 17 at the Winthrop Yacht Club.

The doors will open at 6:30 p.m., with the show commencing at 8 p.m.

Steve Sweeney, known as the king of Boston comedy, will headline the show. Los Angeles-based comedian Jackie Flynn will also perform while a third comedian will open the show.

The proceeds will go to Winthrop Charities, an organization that has donated to programs and schools in the town and to individuals in need of assistance. Notably it has helped defray athletic user fees for some Winthrop students. It has also made donations to the Robert A. DeLeo Senior Center.

One of its largest donations was for the installation of a new weight room and conditioning center at the former high school.

Eruzione said there will be a raffle drawing and an auction. Eruzione, who continues to be in demand nationally as a motivational speaker, said that tickets for the event are available for a $50 donation, $500 for a table of 10 guests.

People seeking to purchase tickets or make reservations can contact Mike Eruzione at 617-353-6020.

“This is Winthrop Charities’ major fundraising event of the year,” said Eruzione, who is director of special outreach at Boston University. “We went away from the golf tournament and we turned the event in to a Comedy Night. We may go back to the golf tournament next year – we haven’t made a decision. We just thought we’d have a slight change of pace.”
