We were notified by Speaker of the House Robert A. DeLeo’s Office that the 21st Century Learning Center at the Cummings School is the recipient of a $50,000 grant to supplement enrichment programs for fourth and fifth graders attending the school. 21st Century Director Kathy DelVento has conducted a terrific program at the school that truly is a national model for educational programs of this nature. Any time you can complement a student’s education during the traditional school day with a well-structured, academically-enriching, and enjoyable experience — that’s a very good program to have for our students.
Winthrop was one of just 13 school districts in the state to receive the grant, which shows how well thought-of the program at the Cummings School is. We thank Speaker DeLeo for delivering the great news and we’re sure our powerful legislative leader was instrumental in making this grant a reality.
