Leslie Carroll

Retired Teacher of Winthrop and Florida

Leslie G. Carroll of Winthrop and Longboat Key, Florida passed away on December 5 at Tidewell Hospice House in Bradenton, Florida. She was 84 years old.

Born in Winthrop on March 22, 1929,  the daughter of the late Chester F. and Marie (Simonds) Griffin and sister of the late Joyce G. Kurz, Leslie was a graduate of Lesley University and Bouve’ College, and was a retired elementary school teacher.

She is survived by her husband, Creighton C. Carroll; her daughters: Lee M. Beery (Woodfin)and her husband, Paul of The Villages, FL, Susan M. Parinello (Carroll) and her husband, Anthony of Ontario, NY and Sheridon, CO; her sons: John S. Carroll of Tucson, AZ, William B. Carroll and his wife, Melinda of Barre, VT, and Kevin C. Carroll and his wife, Sally of North Reading. She also leaves two nephews: John F. Kurz, of Sarasota, Florida and Richard B. Kurz of Loveland, CO, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

There will be a celebration of her life on Saturday, March 22, at St. John’s Episcopal Church (corner of Bowdoin and Buchanan Streets) Winthrop at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice, 3355 26th St. W, Bradenton, FL 34205.

Michael Pumphret

Of Chatham, formerly of Winthrop

Michael R. Pumphret of Chatham, formerly of Winthrop, passed away at Pleasant Bay Nursing and Rehabilitation in Brewster on December 5 after a brief illness. He was 72 years old.

Born in Boston, he was the beloved son of the late Helen (Ohlson) and William Pumphret. Prior to his retirement, he was employed doing maintenance for the National Seashore Park for many years.

He was the dear brother of Norma McGrath of Winthrop and the late William Pumphret, Paul Pumphret and Carol Bruce. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Christina Rock

Medical Assistant of Malden,

Formerly of Winthrop

Christina Rock of Malden, formerly of Winthrop, passed away unexpectedly at home on December 3. She was 28 years old.

Born in Malden, the beloved daughter of Kathleen (Phillips) and Robert Rock of Saugus, she was educated in Winthrop schools and went on to become a medical assistant.

She was the loving mother of Makayla and the dear sister of Michelle Feitor and her husband Michael of Somerville; the cherished granddaughter of Jean A. Rock and the late Russell M. Rock and is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins.
