Our Condolences to the Family of Stephen “The Tank” Adamson Sr.

We join the community of Winthrop in extending our condolences to the family of Stephen Adamson Sr., who died on November 6 at the age of 67.

A Class of 1965 graduate of Winthrop High School, Mr. Adamson was an outstanding football player for the Vikings and then chose to take his immense talents across the country to Division 1 University of Wyoming where he distinguished himself on the gridiron as well, leading the Wyoming Cowboys to an undefeated season and a berth in the Sugar Bowl.

We had the opportunity to meet Mr. Adamson on his return visits to Winthrop and he always mentioned how proud he was to be from Winthrop and how much he enjoyed the people and the small town togetherness that was here.

Mr. Adamson was an assistant football coach for several years and he no doubt told his players how football can be a vehicle for attending college and getting a great education. Mr. Adamson will always be a giant, the legendary “Tank,” in WHS sports annals.

We remember Mr. Adamson as a great man and a great athlete.
