We want to give a hearty welcome to Peter Struzziero, who began his duties this week as the new director of the Winthrop Public Library. We had the opportunity to sit down and talk with Peter and we must say we’re very excited by his innovative ideas to make the library a true center of activity in our town. He intends to launch a new Web site for the library and increase its social media presence. Peter said libraries are much more than the “quiet reading rooms” that they have been in the past and there are many activities and programs that can emanate from there.
Peter has a great educational background, having received a Master’s Degree in Library Science from Simmons College, whose graduate program in that field is ranked among the top five in the country.
Peter’s father, Alexander, grew up in Winthrop, so our new director is well aware of the library’s proud history and its grand significance to our residents.
Town Manager James McKenna and assistant Joe Domelowicz led an extensive process to find the best possible candidate for this position. A dozen candidates sought the post and it appears we have a truly dedicated and knowledgeable director in Peter, who is looking forward to meeting all of the members of our community with the goal of making the library a valuable resource for residents of all ages.
