Pancake Breakfast is Sunday: Father’s Day Tradition is Fun

One of the great traditions in Winthrop, which now spans some 50 years (that’s more than two full generations), is the annual Father’s Day Pancake Breakfast fundraiser to support the Winthrop High football program.

The flapjack fest not only is a great way to treat Dad to a sport-oriented breakfast in which he no doubt took part many times when he was a youngster (and yes, how time flies!), but it serves up a dish of promise for the future of the WHS football program, which in these lean fiscal times needs the support of the entire Winthrop community for its continued success.

The 2013 grid campaign (and it is not too early to begin thinking about it with the start of training camp just two months away) should be another exciting season for Viking football fans, especially with the new state playoff format set to be inaugurated in which the top eight teams in each division in sectionals qualify for the playoffs. Coach Sean Driscoll no doubt will have his troops ready to vie for a playoff spot.

Full details of the Pancake Breakfast, which as always will be held in the WHS cafeteria, appear elsewhere in this week’s Sun-Transcript. So bring your appetites and support WHS football!
