As a way to recognize those who work for the betterment of our community, and to launch the year with their new leadership team, the Winthrop Chamber of Commerce will hold its 22nd annual Kick-Off Dinner & Awards Night on Friday, February 1. The Hyatt Harborside at Logan Airport will be the host for this event. The 2013 award recipients include many deserving honorees.
Maria Flanagan will receive the 2013 Educational Excellence award. She is a history teacher at Winthrop High School and advisor for the mock trial team.
Students Jordan Corbett-Frank and Kelly Russo have been named recipients of the Youth Leadership award. Both are juniors at Winthrop High School.
Judie VanKooiman will receive the 2013 Chamber Member of the Year award for her active participation in many events throughout the year.
Receiving the Visual Achievement award will be Chris Young and MSA Mortgage for their work in renovating the Wadsworth Building. Both inside and out, the building has received much needed TLC.
Celebrating their 75th anniversary in 2013, the Winthrop Rotary Club will receive the Community Service award. This honor recognizes the organization’s impact both locally and globally.
The Town Service award will go to Steve Calla, director of the Department of Public Works, for his fine job.
Receiving the 2013 Coach of the Year Award will be Jack Trainor, who has been involved with many youth sports for a number of years.
A longtime member of the Winthrop Cultural Council, Joanne Hillman has been named recipient of the Excellence in the Arts award.
Receiving the Lifetime Achievement award will be Diane Davis, owner of the Diane Davis Dance Studio, “where dancing feet meetâ€.
This year’s Patriot Award recipient is Richard Duval in recognition of his service to town and country.
Paesan’s will receive the 2013 Business of the Year award. Owner Robert Pisani and the restaurant at Michael’s Mall are being recognized for all their many contributions to the community.
The Winthrop Chamber of Commerce is looking forward to a wonderful evening at the Hyatt Harborside at Logan Airport on February 1. Reception is at 6:30, dinner is at 8:00 p.m.
