Marie Guidi

Longtime Assistant Town Treasurer

Marie J. (Russo) Guidi of Winthrop died in Reading on December 15 after a long illness. She was 97 years old.

A lifelong resident of Winthrop, she was the loving daughter of the late Angela (Labadini) and Joseph Russo. She was a graduate of the Winthrop Public Schools, served for many years as the Assistant Town Treasurer. She also appeared with her late husband in many local variety shows at St. John the Evangelist Church and the Winthrop Lodge of Elks. She was the beloved wife of the late Albert J. “Obbie” Guidi and together they helped organize the WINARC Christmas parties for many years and also enjoyed singing in the Winthrop Interfaith Choir.
She was the devoted mother of Robert Guidi of Winthrop, the sister of Jennie Ciampa and Dorothy Huffer, both of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and the late Madelyn Moroni, Louise Leandro and Joseph Russo; cherished grandmother of Monica and David Neshat of Boston and Matthew Guidi of Reading.

Barbara Upton

Longtime Employee of Whidden Memorial Hospital

Barbara A. (Clough) Upton of Beachmont Revere died on December 14 at the Spaulding Hospital in Cambridge.  She was 74 years old.

The wife of the late John Upton, she was born in Medford and raised in Medford and Malden, the daughter of the late Ralph and Alice (Robb) Clough.  She was a graduate of Beebe Junior High School and Malden High School. A resident of the Beachmont section of Revere for the last 30 years, Mrs. Upton was a dietary worker for many years at Whidden Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Upton is survived by three children; Jeffrey Upton and his wife, Sumiko of Saugus, Kenneth Upton of Everett and Renee O’Brien of Winthrop; six grandchildren:  Christina, Julia, Alice, Cindy, Kenneth and Stephanie and one great grandson, David.  She was the sister of Ralph Clough, Herbert Clough, Albert Clough, William Clough, Edith McGillen and the late Richard Clough.  Mrs. Upton, who is also survived by many nieces and nephews, was the mother of the late Steven Upton.

Patricia Cunningham-Healey

Of California, formerly of Revere

Patricia M. Cunningham-Healey of San Jose, California died on November 18 after a yearlong illness. She was 62 years old.

Trish grew up in Revere and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1968.

She will be missed by her mother, Patricia A. Cunningham, longtime resident of Revere, now living in Shutesbury, MA, her sisters and brothers: Michele Cunningham of Shutesbury, Michael Cunningham and Peggy Wright, both of Winthrop, Kathy Brainerd of Salt Lake City, Jay Cunningham of Salem, Steven Cunningham of Reading and Karen Garrett of Derry, NH. Her father, John A. Cunningham, is deceased.

A memorial mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church, 320 Winthrop St, Winthrop, Saturday, December 29 at 10 a.m. followed by a gathering at the Pleasant Park Yacht Club, 562 Pleasant St, Winthrop.
