The 11 Foundation: In memory of Michael Mason will hosts its second Tailgating Party Friday night at the Winthrop Golf Club. The event is a fundraiser for the foundation named in memory of the All-Scholastic quarterback who led Winthrop High to the Super Bowl. Even today when we run into friends and former teammates of Mike’s, we hear stories of his excellent athletic abilities and his competitiveness. Stan DeMartinis, a former baseball teammate at Bentley, told us of an early-season baseball game in which the snow had begun to fall and Mike was on the mound. Undeterred by the plummeting temperatures and the swirling snow, Mike was determined to pitch to the very last out.
We’re so pleased that the Mason family and his friends have decided to form this outstanding foundation in his honor and we hope a large number of our readers will attend Friday evening’s event before heading to Miller Field for the Pentucket-Winthrop football game. It will be a perfect way for fans of all ages to kick-off another Friday Night Lights before heading over to Miller to cheer on the Vikings in this important league matchup.
