Football for Real: Turn out to Support Our Vikings Vs. Saugus

We loved the annual Fall Fest that was held Saturday at Ingleside Park and coordinated by Parks and Recreation Director Sean Driscoll and his staff. With Mother Nature providing a summer-like day, parents, families, children, and residents had a great time and Sean and his staff are to be commended for holding such a fun event each year.

In his other role in our town, Sean Driscoll is the head football coach of the WHS football team. After a win over Arlington Catholic last week before a large hometown crowd, the Vikings begin playing “for real” as they start their Division 3 Cape Ann League/Northeastern Conference schedule tonight against Saugus at Miller Field. In the recent past and during the Tony Fucillo era, Winthrop always held the upper hand against Saugus, but the Sachems are very powerful this year and come to town with a 4-1 record and have their own thoughts of winning a league title. We expect another large crowd (and what a spirited showing there was by the large number of high school, middle school, and elementary school students in the audience last week)  to be on hand as Winthrop hosts Saugus and the race for the CAL/NEC D-3 championship begins.
