School is Back : Commuters Need to Be Aware of School Children

Those of us who commute to work in the mornings have been spoiled for the past 10 weeks or so thanks to the lack of school buses, schoolchildren at crosswalks, and parents frantically driving their kids to school. Commuting is so much nicer when school is on vacation break.

But next week that all changes when hundreds of local children will be setting out for school every day between 7:00 and 8:00 a.m. For automobile operators, this means that we must become extra-vigilant to be on the lookout for buses (for which we must stop on both sides of the street) and children crossing streets. And being extra-vigilant means driving extra-slowly in our cramped little town, where the streets are narrow and a child suddenly can appear in our path in the blink of an eye.

We can assure every one of our readers that leaving from our homes a few minutes earlier and slowing down on our drive through town will be well worth it for safety’s sake. No one wants to be the motorist who strikes a child because we were “in a rush.”
