Casino Committee: Gill to Name Committee July 17

Council President Peter Gill said he will appoint at the July 17 council meeting a committee of three councilors who will be the liaison between the council and the public concerning the possible construction of a $1 billion casino/resort at Suffolk Downs. The committee will continue to seek public input on the casino process and be the information line between Suffolk Downs and the council. Gill said a decision has not been made yet about who will sit on the committee that will negotiate a mitigation package with Suffolk Downs.

The casino will be one of the largest developments ever in this area and Winthrop has been designated as one of two “surrounding” communities (along with Chelsea), while Revere and East Boston will be the “host” communities. The casino process is an ongoing one and it’s good to see that our council president has provided our residents with a forum in which to be heard.
