The Evening News with Walter Cronkite

The Evening News with Walter Cronkite evokes a time, the years 1967-1971, and the shift in ideals and experience through the closely observed eyes of Jack Krivitsky. He goes off to college in 1967 straddling two worlds: the upper middle class Jewish world where he’s grown up privileged on Boston’s North Shore, and is thrust into a convulsing nation where old are pitted against young, rich against poor, women against men and black against white. He travels to college in Iowa in 1967 and then transfers to Georgetown in Washington DC in 1968. In Iowa he explores freedom. In Washington he explores power. Through finely wrought portraits of Iowa and Washington DC of that era and of himself as a lover, as an observer and as a close-up, real time participant in the war protests and the great rallies, he stirringly depicts an American social and political era and reveals the American pastiche in all its violence, emotion and irony.
