Is it possible that the Boston Bruins can bring the Stanley Cup to their many fans who have followed their team’s quest through these dramatic 2011 playoffs? Long-time Bruins fans have been waiting a long time, since the days of Bobby Orr, Phil Esposito, Gerry Cheevers, and the rest of the Big Bad Bruins, for the Cup to be hoisted on the Garden ice once again.
It is interesting to note that it was the Vancouver Canucks who gave our Winthrop High hockey coach, Dale Dunbar, the opportunity to realize his dream and play in the National Hockey League. Dunbar was signed by the Canucks following his outstanding career at Boston University. Dunbar also skated for the Boston Bruins and now has a professional relationship in the sport of hockey with Bobby Orr. While he surely has a lot of respect for the Vancouver Canucks, we’re sure that Dale, who grew up in Winthrop, will be joining with the rest of Boston and Winthrop in rooting for the Bruins to win the Cup.
