Another wonderful tradition in our community at this time of year is the Strawberry Festival sponsored by the Winthrop Improvement and Historical Association that will take place this Tuesday evening (June 22) on the grounds of the Deane Winthrop House from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The WIHA’s Strawberry Festival, which features the always delectable strawberry shortcake and whipped cream, is a sure sign that the summer season has arrived. The volunteer members of the WIHA will be adorned in Colonial era garb for the occasion and offering free tours of the historic Deane Winthrop House, which is the oldest structure in Suffolk County dating back to 1637.
The Strawberry Festival serves an important purpose because it is the largest annual fundraiser conducted by the WIHA, enabling the organization to continue its work of preserving and maintaining our community’s most cherished historical treasure.
The Strawberry Festival always is a great after dinner treat for the entire family on a warm June evening and is a great place to meet friends and neighbors while contributing to this worthy cause.
Tickets, which are $5.00, may be purchased in advance at a number of locations around town, including the public library, the Senior Center, the Chamber of Commerce, Woodside Hardware, Shirley Hardware, Honan Sign, Meat Market, Luna Boutique, Crusty Crumpet Bakery, Brown’s Pharmacy, Salon Luxo, and Energy to Go.
