Jake continues his high jump domination

Another rival….another victory.

So it goes for Jake Connors and every opponent he has faced this season in the Northeastern Conference, as the high leaping Viking once again took first place in the high jump in Monday’s meet with Marblehead with a top jump of 6-4.

Connors, who set the Winthrop High School record with a 6-6 jump two weeks ago, also added a triumph in the triple jump with a landing of 37-10. Jake now has won both of those events in every meet this season.

Teammate Jordan Ekaidat enjoyed a fine meet with a second place finish of 37-1 in the triple jump and a second in the 100 meter dash in 12.2.

Dan Sena scored in two events with a second pace in the 400 meter low hurdles in 67.9 and a third in the 110 high hurdles in 18.1.

Nick Doonan added a point to the Viking scoresheet with a third in the discus with a toss of 102-7.

Connors had been scheduled to participate in the State Coaches Meet Saturday in Duxbury, but for the first time in the meet’s history, it was canceled.

“When we left Winthrop the sun was shining,” said WHS heads coach Pat McGee. “But while the coaches were in the tent finalizing the details for the meet, it started to thunder and lightning, and that was it.”

Connors had been seeded third for the meet, which is by invitation only to the top track and field athletes in the state.
