It was nice to hear Town Council President Jeffrey Turco commend the Winthrop Rotary for hosting its annual luncheon for Winthrop seniors that was held Monday at the Senior Center.
A large crowd attended the luncheon and enjoyed the remarks by the featured speaker, Chris Wayland, a former Winthrop resident who is the general manager of WHDH-TV Channel 7 and WLVI-TV Channel 56 in Boston.
The Speaker of the House, Robert DeLeo, was in attendance and it was just a great event.
We commend the Rotary Club for once again doing a good deed for the town of Winthrop.
We have to admit that in writing about the luncheon, it makes us realize that almost all of the seniors who were in attendance the other day were not seniors when this event first began 30 or so years ago. Moreover, few of those who attended the first Senior Luncheon are with us today. In addition, Rotarians such as Ernie Hardy Sr., Myer Brill, and others who started this great event also no longer are with us.
Oh well, we guess it’s just another reminder that, “Tempus fugit,†time flies. But we have to say that we take little comfort in acknowledging that the only thing that is certain about life is that all of us are getting older by the day.
