A Perfect Remedy – H1N1 clinic was a huge success

The Winthrop Health Dept. and Winthrop Medical Reserve Corps deserve plaudits for the H1N1 flu vaccination clinic that was held Saturday at the Cummings School. More than 600 residents of all ages received vaccinations under the watchful eye of Public Health Nurse Ro Sarro and the volunteer Medical Reserve Corps, headed by Town Councillor Jeanne Maggio.

We might add that Jean deserves special mention because she has been active in making sure that Winthrop has kept its attention focused on this important health issue. Those who attended the clinic saw an orderly and well-organized registration and professional administration of the vaccine by the medical staff. Fire Chief Paul Flanagan, leader of the town’s emergency response team, was there to lend his expertise and give his support to the event.

To have 600 people receive this vaccine (about 100 per hour, which is more than one person a minute), shows the depth and expanse of the Medical Corps’ efforts.

We know we join with our fellow townspeople in offering our congratulations on a job well done and a “Thank you” for giving residents an opportunity to take part in this vital public health service.
