Dr. Loran B Smith
Professor of political science
Dr. Loran B, Smith of Topeka, Kan. died Friday July 24, 2009, at his home. He was 63 years old.
He was born July 23, 1946, in Medford, son of Gordon T. and Edith A. (Hibbard) Smith. He graduated from Winthrop High School in 1964 and received a bachelor’s degree at Salem State College in 1968, a master’s degree at Oklahoma State University in 1971, and a Ph.D. at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1980.
He was a professor of political science at Washburn University in Topeka from 1982 until the time of his death. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and served as chapter counselor and faculty adviser.
He was the brother of the late Jeannie L. Boivin and son of the late Edith and Gordon Smith, and is survived by his brother, Richard Smith and his wife, Claudette of Revere, and his two nephews, Randy Smith of Malden and Timothy Smith of Revere.
Arrangements were by the Giberson Funeral Home of Madison, Maine. Burial was held at the family plot on Tuesday, August 4, at Forest Hill Cemetery in Madison, Maine.
Elizabeth Oliver
Of Revere, formerly of East Boston
Elizabeth “Betty” (DiMinico) Oliver of Revere, formerly of East Boston, died on August 10.
She was the beloved wife of John F. Oliver; loving mother of Janice A. Baldi and her husband, Stephen, of Melrose and Denise M. Perry and her husband, Edmund Jr., of Malden; cherished grandmother of John Baldi and his wife, Patricia, Keith Baldi and his wife, Angela, Denae and Mark Perry; great-grandmother of Seneca, Francesca, Brendan, Jacob and Lucia; sister of Teresa Calla of Winthrop and the late Joseph DiMinico and Antoinetta Gambale. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose, on Saturday, August 15, at 9 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours are Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.

John Leary, 81
Former Hanscom Air Force Base Contract Procurement Administrator
John F. Leary of Chelmsford, formerly of Winthrop, died recently.
A World War II veteran, he was a graduate of Winthrop High School, Class of 1945, and Merrimack College, Class of 1952 and was a former contract procurement administrator at Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford.
He was the husband of Betty (Colson) Leary; father of Frank Leary of West Bloomfield, Mich., Mark Leary of Billerica, Jack Leary, Janice Loughman and Jennifer Silverman, all of Chelmsford; grandfather of 10 and great-grandfather of three.
His funeral will be from the Dolan Funeral Home, 106 Middlesex St., North Chelmsford, today, Thursday, at 8 a.m. with a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 25 North Road, Chelmsford. Burial will be in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford.

Anthony Bonacorso, 88
Founder and owner of Bonacorso Construction Company
Anthony J. Bonacorso of Winthrop and Pompano Beach, Fla., died August 10 at the Whidden Memorial Hospital, Everett, after a long illness. He was 88 years old.
Born in Boston, son of the late Anna (Cambria) and Antonio Bonacorso, he was a lifetime resident of Winthrop. He was the founder and owner of the Bonacorso Construction Company, a member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts and a former member of Winthrop Lodge of Elks.
He was the beloved husband of Lina (Gheselli); devoted father of Anna and David Deveau of Winthrop, Anthony and Karen Bonacorso of Middleton, Doreen, and the late Frank Bonacorso of Foxboro and dear brother of Lillian Pirroni of Winthrop, Anna Roberson of Peabody and Grace Rebsmanen of Delray Beach, Fla. He is also survived by eight grandchildren.
His funeral will be conducted from the Ernest P. Caggiano & Son Funeral Home, Winthrop, today, Thursday, at 9 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Belle Isle section f Winthrop Cemetery. Robert DeMild, 78
Retired Unitrode Sales Manager
Robert H. DeMild of Winthrop, formerly of East Boston, died at home on August 8, after a long illness. He was 78 years old.
A US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was employed as the sales manager by the Unitrode Company before his retirement and was an active member of the Winthrop Senior Center.
Born in Boston, son of the late Thelma (Tacelli) and Leonard C. DeMild, he lived in East Boston prior to moving to Winthrop 55 years ago. He was the beloved husband of Nancy J. (O’Meara), devoted father of Cheryl Ann DeMild of Winthrop, Donna M. and Roger West of Winthrop, Robert H. Jr. and Patricia DeMild of Reading and Richard P. and Joanne DeMild of North Reading; dear brother of Leonard and Clara DeMild of Peabody; loving grandfather of Alexandria, Stephanie, Michael, Jacqueline, Kelsey, Kimberly, Krista, Baylee and Brian. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Thomas Harrington
Of Easton, formerly of Winthrop
Thomas F. Harrington of Easton, formerly of Winthrop, died on August 3.
Mr. Harrington grew up in Winthrop and graduated from Winthrop High School, Class of 1978.
He was the husband of Lyn M. Feeney of Easton; father of Jesse R. Brown, Kelsie A. Harrington, Thomas W. Harrington and Shaylyn J. Harrington, all of Easton; brother of Kathleen Gilbert of Harrison, Maine, and Patricia Downey of Essex, Md. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Robert Thomas McMath, 78

Robert Thomas McMath of 7 Tanglewood Lane, Laconia, N.H. died recently, surrounded by his family. He was 78 years old.
Born August 16, 1930 in Boston, son of the late John A. and Marie G. (Mann) McMath, he lived in Somerville as a young boy and moved to Winthrop in his early teens. He graduated from Winthrop High School in 1948. Shortly after his marriage to Joyce Titus in 1958, the couple moved to Lynnfield and on retirement in 1987 to Laconia, N.H.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joyce (Titus) McMath of Laconia, NH; his sons, Thomas Douglas McMath and his wife, Lisa, of Merrimack, NH and Paul Robert McMath and his wife, Anelyn, of Gilford, NH; two grandchildren, Douglas McMath of Laconia, NH and Leilani McMath of Gilford, NH; a great-grandson, Braydon; a brother, John P. McMath of Peabody; a niece, three nephews and several grandnieces and grandnephews, all of Massachusetts.
At his request, there were no calling hours or funeral service. A private burial service for family only was conducted at Winthrop Cemetery, Winthrop.

There will come the day when we will say, life without end at last!!!
