Philip Galletta, 88

Proprietor of Mass. Bait and Tackle of Revere

Philip J. Galletta of Winthrop, a former longtime resident of Revere, died on August 3 at the Whidden Memorial Hospital. He was 88 years old.

Born in Boston, he was a US Air Force veteran of World War II and the proprietor of Mass. Bait and Tackle of Revere.

Son of the late Joseph and Concetta (Pugliares) Galletta, he was the beloved husband of Catherine (Blandini) Galletta and the dear brother of Jennie Galletta of Revere and the late Dominic, Lindy, Thomas and Frank Galletta. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held from the Paul Buonfiglio & Sons-Bruno Funeral Home, Revere, on Tuesday, August 11, at 10 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Anthony’s Church at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting hours will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Bernadette Capezza, 89

Member of Winthrop Lodge Sons of Italy

Bernadette (Aloi) Capezza of Winthrop died at the Lighthouse Nursing Care Center, Revere, on Saturday, August 1, after a long illness. She was 89 years old.

Born in Boston, daughter of the late Marie (Ligotti) and Francesco Aloi, she lived in East Boston prior to moving to Winthrop more than 70 years ago. She was a member of Winthrop Lodge Sons of Italy.

She was the beloved wife of the late Demostene “Joe” Capezza; devoted mother of Vincent Capezza of Holbrook, Mary Blumenthal and her companion, Victor, of Winthrop, Catherine Capezza of Nahant, Gina Murray and her husband, Dennis, of Winthrop and the late Richard Capezza; dear grandmother of Tiffany, Dennis, Sean, Joseph, Cori, Cari and Matthew; and the loving great-grandmother of Jean Jr., Keira and Sophie.

A Memorial Mass will be held at a time to be announced. Burial will be private. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Caggiano Funeral Home. To sign her online book of condolences go to www.caggianofuneralhome.com.

Ruth Noonan, 94

Retired Blue Cross Administrator

Ruth I. (Spencer) Noonan of Winthrop died on August 1 at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading. She was 94 years old.

A retired administrator for the Blue Cross Company, she was born in Boston, daughter of the late Harold Spencer and Elizabeth (McGlew). She was the beloved wife of the late Edward V. Noonan; devoted mother of Robert E. Noonan, Esq., and his wife, Eleanor, and Patricia A. Noonan, all of Winthrop; sister of the late Eleanor McDonald, Joseph Spencer and Mary Cohan; dear grandmother of Jennifer P. Murphy and her husband, Joseph, and Robert P. Noonan and his wife, Megan, all of Winthrop; great-grandmother of Robert P. Noonan, Jr., Matthew Noonan, Connor Murphy, William P. Murphy and Ryan E. Murphy; and she is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were by The O’Maley Funeral Home, Winthrop. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at the Church of St. John by the Rev. Charles Bourke. Burial was in Winthrop Cemetery.
