Joe Clark

Long-time Winthrop residents were saddened to hear of the passing last week of Joe Clark, one of the most-esteemed residents of our community.

Joe was a Winthrop guy through-and-through, a graduate of the Winthrop High Class of 1959 who raised his family in the town he loved.

Joe was a pillar of our town for more than 50 years, following in the footsteps of his dad, long-time Town Clerk John Clark. Joe served Winthrop in many capacities, both in the public sector as a police officer, firefighter (where he rose to the rank of lieutenant), Town Meeting member, and School Committeeman, and in the private sector as the proprietor of a successful company, Diamond Contractors, President of the Winthrop Chamber of Commerce, and then as the President and CEO of the Winthrop Federal Credit Union, succeeding his father, who had been a founding charter member.

We’ll remember Joe as a man of high energy who brought common-sense and a can-do attitude to all of his endeavors.

Joe loved Winthrop, but it was his family, together with his wife of 65 years, Patricia, and their four children, grandchildren, and extended family members, that brought him the most joy.
