DeGregorio Welcomes New Girls Hockey Coach Palmer

 By Cary Shuman

Winthrop High School Athletic Director has officially welcomed Chris Palmer as the Vikings’ new girls ice hockey coach for the 2026-27 season.

“We are very excited to have Coach Palmer take over the girls hockey program after Coach [Butch] Martucci moved on to college hockey,” said DeGregorio. “Chris has been with the program for 19 years (as an assistant coach) and was a big part of the success during that time.”

DeGregorio believes that as a result of Palmer’s outstanding work as an assistant coach and his familiarity with the program’s winning tradition, he is ready to lead the Vikings.

“It is a smooth transition, and I believe he is the right person for the job,” said DeGregorio. “His knowledge and experience are a huge bonus, and the girls will benefit from his ability to come in and keep the program at the level we have become accustomed to over the years.”

One of Palmer’s initial responsibilities as coach will be naming assistant coaches for his staff.

Palmer has announced the following players for the 2026-27 roster to date: seniors Angela Coscia, Amelia Serino, Francesca Indrisano, and Claudia Alquinta; juniors Abby Githinji, Catherine Clark, Bella Veilleux, and Giuliana Marenghi; sophomore Nora Zaffini; and freshmen Lola Ferrara, Claire Chapman, Ava Mackenzie, and Giuliana Graygor.
