Remembering John Vitagliano

Dear Editor,

I am submitting the following tribute in memory of John Vitagliano, who passed away on June 7, 2026.

John dedicated much of his professional life to transportation and public service, contributing to projects that helped shape Greater Boston. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he was a mentor, trusted advisor, and friend to many. His generosity, wisdom, and unwavering belief in others left a lasting impact on countless people, including me.

As former Secretary and CEO of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and former Commissioner of Transportation for the City of Boston, I had the privilege of knowing John both professionally and personally. I felt compelled to share a reflection on the remarkable legacy he leaves behind.

Sincerely,

Gina Fiandaca
