Sen. Lydia Edwards held a re-election campaign fundraiser at Mexico En Tu Casa Restaurant, 71 Jefferson St., Winthrop.
A standing room only crowd attended the event, representing a strong show of support in town for the popular legislator.
In her remarks, Edwards highlighted her many accomplishments in 2026, securing state funding for several projects including $1 million for the seawall on Pico Avenue, $250,000 for trees, $150,000 to upgrade security systems at the Winthrop public schools and $27,000 for general WPS repairs and upgrades, $50,000 for Community Against Substance Abuse (CASA) after-school programs, $200,000 for NeighborHealth’s pharmaceutical tech education and workforce training for WHS seniors. Edwards credited her legislative partners, including Reps. Jeff Turco and Rep. Jessica Giannino, for their assistance in her legislative successes.
Edwards said she has officially qualified for the 2026 ballot for re-election. She also announced her promotion to Captain in the Massachusetts Army National Guard.
Rep. Jeff Turco was the host of the event but was unable to attend due to budgets sessions on Beacon Hill. Turco was well represented by his wife, Melissa Turco, and son, Joseph Turco, who were accorded warm ovations upon their introductions by Sen. Edwards.
Rep. Turco said, “I am proud to support Senator Edwards. She has become a friend and is a good legislative partner. She has helped deliver for Winthrop over the past several years including funding for the Winthrop Ferry, Winthrop schools, and Winthrop Little League. She has also been a strong advocate against using educational and public safety grants as a 3A hammer. I look forward to continuing our effective working relationship.”
Clerk of the Supreme Judicial Court for Suffolk County Allison Cartwright, former Town Council President Tom Reilly, and his wife, Donna Segreti Reilly, attended the reception.
