Retiring From Winthrop Youth Hockey
Dear Editor,
I’ll always cherish the memories and friendships that I made in the Winthrop Youth Hockey Association over the past forty (40) years, especially in the Sunday morning Learn To Skate Clinic, at the Larsen Rink. However, it’s time to close this chapter in my life, as I am retiring from my active involvement in Winthrop Youth Hockey.
To Winthrop Youth Hockey’s Officers and Board of Directors, I appreciate all of the time and effort you put into making my recent retirement celebration so special. It meant the world to me. It was my honor to have so many of you at my recent retirement celebration, which included the recently-crowned Winthrop High School State Hockey Championship Team. They are truly an amazing group of young men who made this community so proud of their monumental and historical accomplishment. They are, and will forever be known as, “State Champions”! I was also my honored to have Butch Martucci and his daughter Talia, who are respectively the legendary WHS Girls Hockey Coach and his sensational high-scoring Captain, at my retirement celebration. Your presence made the event even more special. And, of course, I was also honored to have so many friends and family members at my celebration. I love all of you!
To my colleague and dear friend George Barker, you have always been a great teammate. Over the years, we developed a plan and from season-to-season we worked that plan to perfection to the benefit of the thousands of children who participated in the Learn To Clinic.
And, lastly, thank you to all the children who I coached throughout my career, both past and present, either on a traveling team or in the Learn To Skate Clinic. You were a positive influence in my life. You made my years in Winthrop Youth Hockey a valuable, fulfilling, and rewarding experience!
