John T. Woods
MBTA Retiree
John T. Woods, a cherished member of the community, passed away in Saugus on November 15, 2024.
Born in Boston on February 22, 1943, John was the loving son of the late Ethel M. (Sonia) and William G. Woods.
A dedicated individual, John enlisted in the Army in 1961 and achieved the rank of SP4 before his honorable discharge. Following his military service, he held various jobs until he joined the MBTA where he held various positions including driving buses and trains to working in the materials department until his retirement in 1996. John resided in Winthrop since 1978, where he built a life filled with joy and purpose.
In his retirement years, John found happiness in gardening and carpentry creating beautiful pieces and nurturing his garden with care. His home became his sanctuary, where he found peace in his back yard swimming pool and relaxing on his front porch, enjoying the simple pleasures of life. John found a passion for LEGO’s becoming a devoted builder and collector. He crafted intricate structures and shared his love for LEGO’s with those around him.
He was the devoted husband of over 59 years to Barbara Anne (Grant) and the dear brother of the late Dorothy Callen, Mildred Rizzatano, Ethel Campbell, Michael Woods, Thomas Woods, Robert Woods, Patricia Morris, Margaret Loftus, Deborah Woods, William Woods and Joanne Nally; loving uncle to Dan, Shelley, William and Kathleen; great uncle to Jack, Jessie and many more nieces, nephew and devoted friends.
A special thank you to the staff at Saugus Rehab and Nursing Center and Compassionate Care Hospice of Mass for their care and compassion.
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the visitation from the Caggiano-O’Maley-Frazier Funeral Home, Winthrop on Wednesday, December 4 from 4 to 7 p.m.. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
