A large crowd of enthusiastic supporters attended a campaign re-election reception for State Senator Lydia Edwards Tuesday night at The Winthrop Arms.
Rep. Jeff Turco, District Attorney Kevin Hayden, and Town Council Vice President Hannah Belcher offered introductory remarks for Sen. Edwards, praising her record in office and strongly supporting her candidacy for re-election.
“I couldn’t be happier or prouder to support Lydia Edwards,” said Turco. “Lydia and I go to work every day, working for Winthrop, working for Revere. She has been a tenacious advocate for the people of area, so it’s critical that we re-elect my partner in the legislature, Lydia Edwards.”
Hayden told the gathering, “Lydia Edwards is a powerhouse. She delivers for her constituents. She cares about everything that is going on in each and every area of her communities. She is a fighter. She is balanced in her approach
in everything that she does. She is always focused on doing the next right thing for the next right reason.”
“I am happy to announce that I’m formally endorsing Lydia Edwards. I’m thrilled and honored to do so,” concluded Hayden.
Belcher noted Edwards’ outstanding work as Winthrop’s state senator, “the $500,000 Lydia’s got for our schools, the $1 million for the ferry, the Fire Fund that she started, or her advocacy for us on Beacon Hill that’s helped us get meetings that have been really important in bringing the town forward.”
“Lydia has taken the time since Day 1 to learn the town, to learn us, and what we need – and everything that I bring to her, her question is, ‘How can I help, who can I talk to, who can I connect you to, what can we do?’’’
In her speech, Edwards highlighted an impressive list of accomplishments in office. Her work in securing funds for the Winthrop ferry and for Belle Isle Marsh have been commended townwide.
“I want you to know how hard I’ve been fighting for you in the State House,” said Edwards. “We’ve done a lot of things including earmarks for Belle Isle Marsh totaling $150,000 over the last three years. We’ve worked extremely hard on the ferry as Hannah mentioned.”
“I’m honored to continue to keep fighting for you and I will continue to do so. I do have an opponent and I’m going to be on the doors. I will see you there like I did before and I will continue to fight for your support,” concluded Edwards to a hearty ovation from the packed function room.
