The Strawberry Festival Is Saturday

The annual Strawberry Festival sponsored by the Winthrop Improvement and Historical Association, one of the all-time favorite events in our community (since 1912!), is set for this Saturday, June 15, from 2-6 p.m. The festival will be held (rain or shine) under a tent on the grounds of the historic, 375-year old Deane Winthrop House at 40 Shirley St.

In addition to the signature — and delicious — strawberry shortcake, there will be raffles, games for the kids, an area for photo ops, and music provided by both the Boston Scottish Fiddle Orchestra and the Boston Harbor Bhoys. There also will be craft beer from the Drop Zone Brewery and Strawberry Festival Daiquiris. New to the festival this year will be food prepared by Ferrante’s. The beverages and food will be available for additional charges.

Tickets, which are $10.00 each, are available at Webster First Federal Credit Union, the Winthrop Public Library, Shirley True Value Hardware, Woodside Ace Hardware, the Winthrop Chamber of Commerce, the Winthrop Book Depot and Café, Simon’s Winthrop Book Store, Salon Luxo, Swetts Liquors, the Meat Market, the E.B. Newton Clock Tower Gallery, and the Senior Center. Tickets also may be purchased at the door.

The festival is the largest fundraising event for the WIHA, which has maintained the Deane Winthrop House for 125 years, and serves as a great way to gather with old friends and make new ones. We hope to see you there!
