Letter to the Editor

Congrats, Bill Schmidt

Dear Editor,

I read a letter to the editor in the June 6  “Winthrop Sun Transcript.”  The letter was from current and longtime Chair of the Winthrop Board of Health (BOH) Bill Schmidt indicating that he is stepping down from the Board after eight and a half years of service.

I just wanted to openly commend Bill Schmidt for his service to our Winthrop community especially during the difficult COVID period.   In addition, under Bill’s aegis, the Board continues to deal with the ever challenging issues of air and noise pollution from Logan Airport.  Particularly, Dr. Astrid Weins, a past member of one of Bill’s Boards, wrote an excellent research-based letter entitled “Not Just An Annoyance” in the 12-06-2018 “Winthrop Sun Transcript” about these ever present concerns.

Thank you, Bill Schmidt, for your leadership on the Board of Health that gives direction on personal, environmental, and community health and wellness to the people of Winthrop.  Best to you in your endeavors, Bill.

If anyone is interested in joining the Winthrop Board of Health, contact the Town Manager’s office at 617-846-1705.
