John J. (Jack) Gilfoyle

Retired Vice President of CIGNA

Originally from Charlestown and Winthrop, John J. Gilfoyle (Jack) passed away on May 14 after a brief illness at the age of 91.

John was a graduate of Boston College and Suffolk University Law School and was a proud member of the Massachusetts Bar Association for 61 years. He retired as a Vice President after working at CIGNA for the entirety of his career. John was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Korean War.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Inge, in 2012 after 46 years of marriage. He was the devoted father of Catherine I. Stapleton and her husband, Patrick, Sr. of Milton and Jane S. Stuart and her late husband, Richard, of Wilmington; the adored Grandpa to Patrick, Jr. and John (Jack) Stapleton and Richard (Richie) and William (Willie) Stuart. Jack leaves his younger sister, Claire Bitely of Pace, FL and was predeceased by his brother, Francis P. (Franny) and his sister-in-law, Florence (Dottie) Gilfoyle, and his sister, Mary Megquier of Houlton, ME. He also leaves his sister-in-law, Pam Reef in England. In addition, he is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins in the United States and abroad.

Visiting hours were held in the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home, 210 Winthrop St., Winthrop on Wednesday, May 22, from 9 to 11 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church, (St. Michael’s Parish), 320 Winthrop St. Winthrop at 11:30 a.m. Interment was in Winthrop Cemetery (Belle Isle Section).

Jane Chevalier

Past Treasurer of the Margaret Winthrop Rebekah Lodge #153 of Winthrop and Awarded the Title of “Noble Grand” of the Lodge

 Jane L. (Harvey) Chevalier of Winthrop passed away on May 14, 2024. She was 85 years old.

 Born in Chelsea, she was the cherished daughter of the late Ruth M. (Underwood) and George K. “Keith” Harvey.

Prior to her retirement, Jane worked as a bookkeeper at Rice, Heard and Bigelow

Financial Group in Boston. She was the past Treasurer of the Margaret Winthrop Rebekah Lodge #153 of Winthrop and had been awarded the title of “Noble Grand” of the lodge.

Jane was the devoted mother of the late Wade Stallings and the late Deborah Chevalier; the adored grandmother of Taylor Stallings of Pennsylvania; the dear sister of Linda Beddeos and her husband, Frederic of Newburyport, Carolyn Nickerson of Winthrop, Richard Nichols and his wife, Donna of Lawrence and the late Loraine Allen and the mother-in-law of Lorraine Stallings.

Visiting hours were held in the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home, 210 Winthrop St., Winthrop, on Monday, May 20 from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon followed by a funeral service in the funeral home beginning at 12 p.m. Interment followed in Winthrop Cemetery (Belle Isle Section).
