Where is the best place in the community to find a bargain? Look no further than the Winthrop Public Library & Museum where you pay nothing. Use your library card to borrow books, DVD’s, music CDs, and magazines. Visit and make use of public computers or participate in programs for children, teens and adults. Meet others to discuss books at various book clubs. Need a community space to hold a meeting? The library can fill that need, too. If you are looking to spend money, consider shopping for used books and other items at Book Ends, run by the Friends of the Library Winthrop By the Sea.
Winthrop Public Library & Museum is supported by taxpayer dollars from the Town of Winthrop and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Over the years, the library has earned its place as a revered town institution and thousands of patrons have taken advantage of all the library has to offer. The current Board of Library Trustees and the library staff are planning a celebration of the building’s 125 years of serving the community of Winthrop on June 27, 2024 from 5 – 7 p.m. Come to learn about the library’s storied history from the generous donation 127 years ago of Eliza Frost who donated $10,000 to the town and asked the town to provide the rest to build a library in her husband’s, Morrill Frost’s honor. Come to pay tribute to those who set this wonderful community space in motion. Learn about the addition added to the library and opened in 1972 thanks to a generous bequest by George Hyde. Listen to words of tribute, explore historical exhibits, and celebrate with lively music. Winthrop’s own Ralph Tufo will provide the music with his band, the Squeezebox Stompers and refreshments, including pizza, cake and coffee will be served, provided by local vendors.
Thanks to efforts of members of the Library Board of Trustees, Friends of the Library Winthrop By the Sea, and current library staff and friends, the library welcomes the community to stop by on Thursday, June 27th. Exhibits will be open all day, from 10 – 8 and the festivities will take place from 5 – 7 p.m. Join us as we celebrate this valuable community resource as we roll into summer
