Winthrop’s Jillian Dempsey Named To Boston Globe All-Time Girls Hockey Team

Winthrop resident Jillian Dempsey is widely regarded as one of the greatest girls’ hockey players in Massachusetts history.

The Boston Globe affirmed her position of prominence Sunday, selecting Dempsey to the newspaper’s all-time All- Scholastic Hockey second team.

Dempsey played interscholastic hockey for the Rivers School in Weston, was the captain of the Harvard women’s hockey team, and a nominee for the Patty Kazmaier Award which is given to the nation’s most outstanding women’s college hockey player. Dempsey became professional hockey’s all-time leading scorer for the Boston Pride with 146 points in 142 games, leading the team to three Isobel Cup championships. She currently plays for the Montreal team in the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL).

Asked for a quote about her prestigious honor, Dempsey said, “From my high school days at the Rivers School to my college years at Harvard, to my professional career on the Boston Pride, playing hockey in Boston has been integral to my life and an important part of my identity. I am honored to chosen for the all-time Boston Globe All-Scholastic second team alongside several other players who have contributed to the game in significant ways. I am proud to call Boston home and I am honored to be recognized by the Globe for my contributions to hockey in New England.”
