Pasquale Freda

A Devoted Family Man and a Pillar of Strength Who Faced Life’s Challenges Head On

Pasquale Freda passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on December 10, 2023 at the age of 82.

Born on January 6, 1941 in Melito Irpina, Avellino, Italy, he was the son of Francesco and Addolorata (Luisi) Freda. Pasquale is survived by his loving wife, Fiorentina “Tina” (D’Elia), with whom he shared a remarkable journey of 54 years in marriage. Pasquale’s legacy is carried on by his children: Dorina Shea and her husband, John, Rosemarie Hinchion and her husband, Keith and Frank Freda and his wife, Gina, all of Winthrop. He was a caring brother to Giuseppe Freda of Avellino, Italy, and the late Maria Grazia. Pasquale’s role as a grandfather was cherished and he leaves behind a lasting impact on his grandchildren: Ariana, Alissa, Gabriella, Stephen, Nicholas, Sofia, and Amelia. His warmth and love extended to numerous nieces and nephews.

Leaving Italy at the age of 18, Pasquale embarked on a journey across Europe, working in various countries. In 1969, he made America his new home and, that same year, he married the love of his life, Tina.

Pasquale was a devoted family man, finding immense joy in the company of his children and grandchildren. His strong work ethic was evident in every aspect of his life. Active in the community, Pasquale was a familiar face at Sacred Heart Parish in East Boston and Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Boston. He was a devout disciple of Padre Pio, exemplifying faith and spirituality throughout his life. Pasquale had a deep appreciation for diverse cultures, finding joy in watching anything with foreign languages. His love for archaeology and ancient history was evident, reflecting a curious and inquisitive mind.

Pasquale enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, such as reading, biking and walking. He had a passion for making and enjoying his red wine. A skilled gardener, he took pride in cultivating his garden and cherished his lemon tree, whether it graced the indoors or stood outdoors, depending on the weather.

Known for his resilience, Pasquale faced life’s challenges head-on, much like a bull. He was a pillar of strength. His determination and dedication to his family will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Pasquale Freda’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love and warmth he shared with family and friends throughout his rich and fulfilling life.

Family and friends will honor Pasquale’s life by gathering at the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home, 971 Saratoga Street, (Orient Heights) East Boston, on Saturday, December 16th from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Parish, East Boston, for a Funeral Mass celebrating his life at 11 a.m. Services will conclude with Pasquale being laid to rest at Winthrop Cemetery, Belle Isle Section, Kennedy Drive, Winthrop.
