Chapdelaine Announces Candidacy for Precinct 2

Special to the Transcript

Marc Chapdelaine has announced his candidacy for Town Council Precinct 2.  The following is his statement:

“I am proud to announce my candidacy for Winthrop Town Council for Precinct 2.  Winthrop is a community my family and I have called home since 2011.

Over the next four years, the Council will navigate decisions shaping Winthrop for decades, including negotiating contracts for vital community developments like a first-class Recreation Center at the old Middle School site, a new firehouse, the MWRA Mitigation Agreement, and the MassPort PILOT Agreement.

Leveraging over 20 years of experience as an attorney, I have helped clients navigate complex challenges and find solutions – a skill set I will bring to our Council from day one.

My previous leadership roles, including Chair of the Board of Licensing, Chair of the Ordinance Review Committee, and President of Winthrop’s Chamber of Commerce, have equipped me to understand and address our town’s challenges head-on.

My vision for the old Middle School site involves no use of taxpayer funds, exploring avenues like lease agreements, grant money, mitigation funds, and private-public partnerships to develop a first-facility beneficial and accessible to all, whether it aligns with the current Rec Center proposal or adopts a new model.

Addressing our schools, ranked in the bottom-third in Massachusetts, is paramount. As a parent and Councilor, I will strive to maximize funding for our school system, providing the School Committee with the necessary resources to enhance and maximize our students’ education.

If elected, I will work tirelessly to improve our schools, reduce our taxes and fees, boost municipal revenue, and ensure safety, all while preserving and supporting our town.
