Diehl Endorsed by Winthrop Republican Town Committee

The Winthrop Republican Town Committee unanimously endorsed Geoff Diehl for Governor at their last meeting. Diehl a heavy favorite in the Governor’s race will be will be be squaring off against a Republican challenger in September and ultimately Maura Healey in the November election.

The Winthrop Committee supported Geoff Diehl because of his long history of defending the citizens of this state. As a four term State Representative Diehl was a staunch defender of the public interest. Diehl always fought to keep taxes low and reduce state spending. Diehl is also remembered as the person that was the backbone behind rolling back the gas tax increase in 2013 by the Democrat controlled legislature. This gas tax increase was indexed to the cost of living increase, and as such this tax was going to increase every year forever. Winthrop Republican Town Committee Chair Paul Caruccio exclaimed, “imagine if we had to pay the current inflation rate on top of our current gas prices of $5.00 per gallon gas? Geoff Diehl saved Massachusetts families and individuals billions of dollars in savings on this one issue.”

In fact, last year Geoff Diehl again prevented another gas tax increase; the CTI. He did this by sponsoring a referendum question which received so many signatures from Massachusetts citizens that Governor Baker withdrew the tax bill. Geoff Diehl has also pledged to restore police funding, fight the crime increase, restore our schools’ performance while empowering parents. Geoff will also rehire all state employees who lost their jobs due to the vaccine controversy. This includes rehiring those of our vital police and emergency personnel.

In short Geoff Diehl has been there when the working citizens of this state need an advocate. Geoff will continue to benefit our state and families as our new Governor.
