Two Winthrop Organizations Receive Save the Harbor/Save the Bay Better Beaches Grants

Last week Save the Harbor/Save the Bay awarded $9,000 to two Winthrop organizations to fund free beach events as part of Save the Harbor’s Better Beaches program.

This year’s Winthrop grant recipients include Friends of Belle Isle Marsh and the Friends of Winthrop Beach. Each organization will run free family friendly community events at the Beach and Marsh this summer and fall.

Friends of Belle Isle Marsh received a $4,000 grant to run the Salt & Sun Tidal Explorations at the marsh this fall while Friends of Winthrop Beach received a $5,000 grant to run both a Back to the Beach Party and a Winthrop Beach Movie Night.

“The metropolitan beaches are extraordinary assets that belong to all the people of our region,” said Executive Director of Save the Harbor/Save the Bay Chris Mancini. “We’re proud to fund free community events led by organizations that celebrate and represent our communities’ cultural and racial diversity, and what we have in common: we love our beaches.”

Acting DCR Commissioner Stephanie Cooper added, “DCR is proud of our Better Beaches Program Partnership with Save the Harbor/Save the Bay. We are all looking forward to another great season of free events and programs on DCR’s beaches from Nahant to Nantasket,”
