John McCarthy

Retired American Airlines Safety Manager

John J. McCarthy of Winthrop passed away on May 19. He was 90 years old.

John was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a safety manager for American Airlines.

John was the beloved husband of 69 years to Althea A. (Paterson) McCarthy and the cherished son of the late William and Mary (Capillo) McCarthy, the devoted father of Patricia Frasso and her husband, Nicholas, Julia DiBenedetto and her husband, Ralph, John McCarthy Jr. and his wife, Roseli and Charles McCarthy and his wife, Jennifer. He was the proud grandfather of Lindsay, Allison, Richard, Nicholas and Thomas and the dear brother of William McCarthy and his late twin brother, Carmen McCarthy and the late Mary Phelan.

At John’s request, visiting hours are respectfully omitted and interment will be private. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Expressions of sympathy may be made by donating to Survivors by the Sea at the website https://survivorsbythesea.org.

Joanne Andy

Loving and Caring Mother and Grandmother

Joanne P. (Lepke) Andy of Peabody, formerly of Saugus and Winthrop, passed away on May 18. She was 78 years old.

She was the beloved wife of the late Robert Andy. Born in Winthrop, she was the cherished daughter of the late Paul and Constance (Parmelee) Lepke.

Joanne was a graduate of Winthrop High School. Prior to her retirement, she worked as an office manager for Verizon. Recently, she had resided in Florida and will be greatly missed by her “Florida Crew”. Joanne was dedicated to her family. She will fondly be remembered as a loving and caring mother and grandmother.

Joanne was the devoted mother of Christopher P. Andy and his wife, Julie of Peabody, Scott M. Andy and his wife, Gina of Saugus and Robert A. Andy and his wife, Megan of Winthrop. She was the adored grandmother of Brian, Erin, Jared, Lauren, Emily and Jackson Andy; the dear sister and sister-in-law of Janice Dow of Lynn, Joyce Monahan and her husband, Charlie of Winthrop, the late Paul Lepke and his surviving wife, Janet of Winthrop. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated in St. John the Evangelist Church, 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop, on Saturday, May 21. Interment was in Winthrop Cemetery (Belle Isle Section.) Carol Ann Coscia

Of Winthrop, formerly of East Boston

Carol Ann (Curti) Coscia of Winthrop, formerly of East Boston, passed away on May 19. 

The beloved wife of Richard Coscia, she was the devoted mother of Maria Coscia, Michelle Repstien and her husband, Mike and Richard Coscia; dear sister of Gail McIntyre and Sandra Marshall and adored nana of Angela and Nicholas. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. 

Family and friends honored Carol’s life by gathering at the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home, East Boston, on Tuesday, May 24 before leaving in procession to St. John the Evangelist Church, 320 Winthrop Street, Winthrop for a mass celebrating Carol’s life. Services concluded with Carol being laid to rest at the mausoleum at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.
