For Kids Only Afterschool (FKO) children gave back to the Winthrop community by cleaning the space outside of the town library, making way for new trees to be planted. FKO partnered with two nonprofit groups, Friends of the Winthrop Public Library and Museum, and Winthrop Loves Trees to provide a hands-on environmental education experience for children in the Town of Winthrop.
Twenty-five first graders from FKO’s afterschool program gathered outside the town library and picked weeds while learning about trees and their importance to the environment. “It’s great to see kids having fun taking care of the world around them,†said Gabi Calmon, FKO Winthrop Program Director. As a result of this community project, children will also learn about recycling, water conservation and more.
With the opening of their new program facility located at 233 Winthrop Street, FKO has been eager to have children collaborate with local community groups to help teach children the importance of contributing to their surrounding environments, while providing hands-on, educational experiences for those enrolled in the afterschool program.
FKO looks forward to supporting the efforts of local initiatives and continuing to partner with the community whenever possible.
