Special to the Transcript
On Tuesday, Lydia Edwards held a “Salute to our Seniors and Veterans†concert at the Winthrop Elk’s Lodge which featured Grammy Award-winning vocal group, The Platters, as well as local group Smokin’ Joe and the Henchmen. The nearly 100 seniors and veterans in attendance heard from Edwards about her childhood growing up on military bases with her mother who is now a retired Air Force veteran. The Platters performed their hits such as “Only You†and “The Great Pretender†along with a special song dedicated to active and retired military members, a memorial song for those we’ve lost to the COVID-19 pandemic, and a rendition of Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond in honor of the Red Sox playing in the ALS Wild Card game just a few hours later
