WCAT Announces First Ron Moses Memorial Scholarship Recipient

WCAT congratulates Dillon Riley on being the first recipient of the Ron Moses Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $2,500.

Dillon will be attending Framingham State University in the fall, where he will be studying Media Production. He hopes to carry his experience into a career in sports media. He is currently spending his summer volunteering at the station. 

 Ron Moses was an active Producer and Board Member with WCAT for over 20 years, donating selfless hours of volunteer time. He served as President for three terms, totaling 18 years. The WCAT studio is named in his honor. 

The WCAT Ron Moses Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a Winthrop student who intends to major in TV Production or related field (production, broadcasting, cinematography or journalism). 

Everyone at WCAT wishes Dillon all the best in his future endeavors. We know he will achieve great things.

Movie Night on the Beach

Movie Night on Winthrop Beach will be the place to be on Saturday night, August 21st at 8 PM for the annual free family fun Movie night. Bring your own chair or blanket and observe the COVID social distancing guidelines.  Come early and watch the full moon rise!  Sponsored by the Friends of Winthrop Beach, Save the Harbor and DCR. 

The Friends of Winthrop Beach have announced that the “Back to the Beach Party” scheduled for this Sunday, Aug. 22  has been postponed due to the increase in cases of COVID.  They continue to  watch what is happening in Winthrop and will announce when it’s safe to reschedule.  We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but in the interest of everyone’s health and safety, we have made this decision.

Honan of Winthrop Recognized for Academic Excellence

Worcester Academy proudly announces its final Honor Roll and Headmaster’s List for the 2020-2021 School Year. The honors represent the achievements that each of the Worcester Academy students has earned through academic excellence, challenge, and personal growth.

Among the students is Mary Honan of Winthrop, Grade 12, First Honors. Worcester Academy, founded in 1834, is an independent day and boarding school for boys and girls in grades 6 to 12 (and postgraduates).
